About the event
Rachel Halegoua is a licensed Art Therapist and Special Education Teacher and is currently working in a school in Ward 8 of the District of Columbia Public Schools as a special education teacher. She brings a therapeutic approach to teaching with years of experience working as a trauma trained therapist at Bellevue Hospital Pediatric Unit, Harlem Hospital Inpatient Psychiatric Unit in New York City, and local private therapy centers in Maryland.Â
Rachel obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, went on to pursue her MPS in Art Therapy, and is currently finishing her final courses at GWU in the Special Education and Disability Studies Doctorate Program. She is passionate about incorporating therapeutic techniques into the classroom on a daily basis for students with disabilities, as well as informing and introducing teachers to alternative therapeutic approaches to assist them when working with children with disabilities, especially those exposed to trauma or with other emotional and behavioral disorders.
